Poem: Dawn Romance

Photo by Bánh Bao Chiên on Unsplash

Morning sunlight angles

through the trees

onto the driveway where

two butterflies are courting

they bump and flutter

leap into the air

to meet, kiss and

drop downward again

stunned and staggering

is love meant to be so

violent, they wonder,

as they flop around,

regain their equilibrium

and tangle again, until

one loses its mate and

meanders off towards the trees

seeking solitude perhaps

and a moment to

rethink the whole damned idea.
