Everyone who writes or wants to write has their favorites. They’re the quotes that help to keep you motivated, or cheer you up on a bad rejection day, or get you to sit at the computer and do that 200 word minimum for the day.

We choose quotes that speak to us, and to how we feel about writing, usually in the bad times. The times when we have procrastinated every day for weeks, or received three rejections in an hour (email is not always our friend). Or when someone close to us has said, “I don’t know why you bother.”

But don’t leave them in your notebook — pin them around your computer or laptop, put them on your desktop, write them in your diary. Use them proactively.
