Love this, and would love to pass it on to friends - but it would probably lose me some friends if I did that, sadly. Particularly poignant today, as a longtime friend of mine's husband just died. The guy was 91, and she has been his carer for more than 20 years. I will restrain myself from explaining why he's been an invalid (food and drink issues mainly), but during that time she has been a major community volunteer, helping out all sorts of people and even won Citizen of the Year once. I can't help imagining what she could have achieved if she'd been less tied down!
Your other quote - "The over-emphasis on mental health has been the single biggest factor in the dramatic drop in the quality of our mental health." I agree.
I've just read an article about the huge percentage of people in Australia on anti-depressants, and how many are wrongly prescribed. Yes, young people absolutely had a hard time during Covid lockdowns and having to do schooling from home, but for many, the media carping on and on about how they all then had mental health issues did not help. For the record, I studied my whole Bachelor's degree at home. Took me nine years but that kind of distance learning was a bonus for me (and apparently has been for lots of kids who were having issues with bullying, noisy classrooms and dealing with things like autism).
