It’s Easy to Give Up on Your Writing — Is The World Really Waiting on Your Words?

Many writers struggle because some days, their lives are just too hard

I see lots of articles on Medium about making bazillions of dollars with writing, either on Medium or other platforms like Vocal. Truth be told, they make me feel tired. I know I don’t write enough to make bazillions.

I just write what I know about (writing skills, mostly for fiction writers) because I taught that stuff for 30 years. So I want to share my knowledge and experience. It’s good to put into words the things I’ve been telling students for so long.

I know writing is hard. But so is life sometimes, and life can kill your writing desires. Squeeze them into husks.

What I love to write is fiction, crime fiction for adults and children’s books. It’s not for Medium. And although I publish poetry here, it’s not an earner. It often takes 20 seconds for someone to read!

All the same, my fiction writing has been up and down. Probably more up than for many people who want to be published. My third crime novel has just been published and I’m really happy about it. I never thought it would or could happen.

So you’d think I wouldn’t have writer’s block or writer’s blues…
