Member-only story

heart lungs bones flesh: a poem

a case of lower case poetry

every part is named within the whole

linked and bound by nomenclature

ligament and vein, links of

sinew and tendon, arteried

carriageways to carry and rush

carry and pause in a steady pulse

that rises and beats in the mind

with hypnotic, mindless rhythm.

does it matter how aware we are

of our own mechanics, how alive?

we’re determined it’s mind over

matter, ignoring what rolls and tolls

in our veins, what links and

connections mean to our flesh,

how every cell carries its

own and every name.
