Could AI Write My Crime Novels? Why I Say No
And it kind of comes down to one four-letter word!
It’s the big question on every author’s mind right now. Should I give up writing? I mean, look at those guys from Spines who say they’re going to produce hundreds of books in months and flood the market.
It makes you want to throw up, and then give up.
But there are plenty of people who say different. People who deal with books and publishing every day, authors who believe what they write is impossible to produce via AI.
OK, so in the future AI might become good enough to produce readable novels. But who’s going to read them? Are you already a keen reader? You know, not a lot of people are. Only 1% of people in the US read more than 50 books a year, according to the Washington Post. 33% read five books a year. FIVE!
When you think about that, it’s obvious that there is a dedicated band of readers out there who support the whole publishing industry. Those who read five books a year are very likely going to choose bestsellers — so that’s not your books or mine.
Why do the bigger readers choose you or me? They like what we write. It’s as simple as that. Why do people read articles on Medium? Usually because they like what the writer says and how they say it…
